I love to eat. I love to
cook. It’s all about the balance. And then, there are moments when I eat to get the food out of
my mind. It’s a process.
Food, just like travel, is a driving
force. Inspirational and satisfying. Eating is a pleasure, of course, though I really
don’t mind just reading about food. Or, watching the TV cooks and celebrity
chefs tossing pots and pans around their designer kitchens making cooking up a
storm look easy. Heck, I even loved watching Ratatouille proving the point that
everybody can cook.

Bučnica (Marrow & Cottage Cheese Pie)

I grew up on robust Central
European home cooking and have learnt first-hand how to love and appreciate all
its hearty goodness, seasonal richness, natural heat and dripping fat. It’s a familiar
cuisine my favourite comfort foods derive from.
So, I have my classics, of course, but along the way I have also uncovered
some exceptionally delightful dishes. Many are just a whiff of the past, but many have become my kitchen staples and favourite tools for extracting happy memories. Somehow sinking my teeth into the melting
folds of freshly baked pastry shifts my grey cells into gear. It’s a condition.
On this blog I’ll occasionally
adapt and reformat a recipe out of my overflowing recipe book (every cook has
got one) and share some of my family favourites. Most dishes will be child
friendly (as I recently turned into full time Mother Earth feeding my son and
his mates a galore of nourishing foods for every occasion) and many will be the
festive foods that turn Easter, Christmas, New Year and other annual
celebrations into much anticipated days of careful preparations and long
memorable feasts.
Hope you'll enjoy the selection!
